Treason Is OK If You Are a REPUG – UPDATE

November 13, 2010

Last night, Netanyahu met in New York for over an hour with incoming House Majority Leader Rep. Eric Cantor (R-Va.), who is set to become the highest ranking Jewish member of Congress in history. The meeting took place at New York’s Regency Hotel, and included no other American lawmakers besides Cantor. Also attending on the Israeli side were Israeli Ambassador to the U.S. Michael Oren, and Netanyahu’s National Security Advisor Uzi Arad.

Israeli sources characterized a one-on-one meeting between an Israeli prime minister and a lone American lawmaker as unusual, if not unheard of. Cantor’s office did not think that Cantor and the Prime Minister had held a one-on-one meeting before.

Ever notice how Cantor’s forked tongue flicks when he talks?

UPDATE: Adam Serwer recalls that in 2007, Nancy Pelosi visited Syria — she didn’t pledge to side with them against her own country, just visited them — and Eric Cantor himself was one of the many Republicans accusing her of likely having committed a crime. Cantor wrote: “Several leading legal authorities have made the case that [Pelosi’s] recent diplomatic overtures ran afoul of the Logan Act, which makes it a felony for any American ‘without authority of the United States’ to communicate with a foreign government to influence that government’s behavior on any disputes with the United States.”

As Serwer writes: “Based on Cantor’s own standard, he’s just committed a felony.” For Cantor, the operative term distinguishing his conduct from Pelosi’s is presumably “foreign government,” which — in Cantor’s mind — applies to those with whom Pelosi met but not to those with whom Cantor met. Steve Benen correctly argues that “this is a legitimate scandal worthy of far more attention”; the fact that it won’t receive any real attention tells you all you need to know. Had Cantor done this with any foreign nation other than Israel, this would easily be the leading political controversy of the week.

  1. good god.. please!! here he is doing OBAMA’s job.. and you think he is in cahoots with them Israelites.

  2. If he was doing his own job he would keep his butt out of negotiating with foreign counties. Treason.

  3. I wonder if you were so riled when Pelosi got all kissy face with Syria?
On a side note one could ponder and open a discussion about such actions by the Israeli officials and Cantor,of course whilst you have the ledger out you have to look at all the pols, including Obama and the AIPAC pandering.
I’m curious if the posts author would like to provide exactly what bothers him/her the most about this incident??/

    • The difference is that Pelosi had Obama’s blessing. Being one sidded in the middle east has not worked – never will. Heads need to be cracked on both sides – and moderates encouraged on boith sides. That does not happen by sucking up to Zionist neocons.

  4. My apologies for this essentially blank comment. Need it for “My Comments” tracking on the ole dashboard.Thx,look forward to a response.

  5. has nothing to do with the thread.. but I thought it was funny.

  6. where is Hillary?? she has seems to be keeping a low profile.. these days.. hmmm. I think is slacking at her job.. here you have everyone else picking up the baton.. Get rid of HER as well. She is worthless.

    • One of the best Secretarys of State in a long time. She had a meeting after Cantor. He needs to butt out.

  7. Hillary is unaware of her surroundings.. another empty head.. with a personal agenda.

    • …the regressives hate everything to do with Bill…including his wife.
Why because Bill ran them around in circles – still does.

  8. Dog the incident I’m talking about back in 07 did not have Presidential approval and seeing as she is in the House as opposed to the Senate and seeing as the USA was looking into the Syrian accountability thing she was far off base.
As for Hill, she had a 7 hour meeting if the press is to be believed. She reiterated a point that was a cornerstone of the Bush Administration regards ME peace (that being direct Israeli/Palestinian talks) so I don’t know really where that leaves us.
If it means anything I feel Cantor overstepped but that it seems to be in context to an overall anti-Obama,anti Hamas tone.

  9. “Cantor overstepped but that it seems to be in context to an overall anti-Obama,anti Hamas tone”

So because Cantor hates Obama and hates Hamas treason is A-OK. Got it.

  10. Cantor described Pelosi’s actions as a felony, and she didn’t even take sides against the duly elected government of the United States.

I would re-title this post “It’s OK if you take Israel’s side against the side of the USA.”

    • So Alfie supports treason as long as a repug does it…
