When Does the War Crimes Trial Start?

November 4, 2010

In a memoir due out Tuesday, Bush makes clear that he personally approved the use of that coercive technique against alleged Sept. 11 plotter Khalid Sheik Mohammed, an admission the human rights experts say could one day have legal consequences for him.

In his book, titled “Decision Points,” Bush recounts being asked by the CIA whether it could proceed with waterboarding Mohammed, who Bush said was suspected of knowing about still-pending terrorist plots against the United States. Bush writes that his reply was “Damn right” and states that he would make the same decision again to save lives, according to a someone close to Bush who has read the book.

  1. I’m not Bush fan; however, if you are going to put out stuff like this about a PAST POTUS, you also should kick out OBAMA’s war.. Afghanistan.. WHY are we still there??????

  2. We didn’t come up with this stuff. This is from Bush’s own lips.

He’d better be really careful if he plans to travel outside the US. We executed Japanese after WWII for less than Bush admitted to. Really, we did!

  3. They are still hunting for Serbian war criminals. It is essential that the war criminals be brought to trial – there is no time limit on war crimes…
The US used to have a sterling reputation abroad…we migth get it back…or not.

Yes I’d love to see Bush or Cheney take a european holiday – they are waiting.

  4. I agree on Cheney not on Bush. Bush was an oaf of a follower bolstered by Texas bravado. Cheney was the true Darth Vader.

Neither will be prosecuted … it’s a pipe dream.

And until Obama stops rendition, we need to be careful what we ask for.

    • Pipe dream – perhaps – have a smoke?
“Ignorance” was not an excuse at Nuremberg. Those responsible get tried – starting with Bush.

    • But Bush himself says that he, Bush, ordered the waterboarding with a hearty “Hell, yes!”

Maybe if there were some overt moves overseas to try Bush, Cheney and Rumsfeld for war crimes, the current president WOULD stop the renditions. It’s possible.
