Ain’t it the truth! How did Americans become afraid of their own shadows? It wasn’t always like this.
I guess we can blame a lot of it on the one sucker-punch that we took on 9/11/2001, then the insane fearmongering that followed. A terrorist under every bed, and in line behind you at the airport – even if it’s a little old grandmother or an infant who somehow got on the no-fly list.
And the endless fear-mongering propaganda motivated by political opportunism. Fear of being “taken over” by Mexico. Or by Sharia Law. Or by whatever “foreign” influences Obama allegedly represents.
Some of the worst of the fearmongers faded from the scene on January 20, 2009. Some are still here, on my teevee almost every Sunday morning. I’m talking about you, Newt!

The Black Caucus has overwhelmingly Democratic voters in their districts, and Obama is urging them to get their constituents to vote. That’s the “race card”? No, it isn’t. You’re daffy.
Bill Clinton would certainly do this. George Bush – definitely, but not in black districts where he wasn’t so popular.
so the GOPers appealing to old redneck white males – like Palin did is somehow different? The GOP is hardly a friend of blacks – no black in thier right mind would vote for them. Nor any other color unless you happen to be very very wealthy.
Your Uncle Sam poster reminds me of Jon Stewart’s current planned rally to “restore sanity”. Heck, even Joe Scarborough, MSNBC’s lone conservative gave a lecture the other day on moderation.
While the emergence of the O’Donnell’s/Paladino’s scares me, it might just be enough to cause a backlash of moderate THINKING individuals who want to solve problems. One can only hope. 🙂

Anyway … to answer your question you should see at the top of every WordPress page several options (My Account, My Blog, etc.) On this menu list is an option called “Subscribe” which allows any of your readers to subscribe to your blog. You can see who is subscribing to your blog in the WordPress admin area.
Also … (and it may be possible to disable this) most WP blogs will place two options directly below the comments box. One says subscribe to the blog if the person is not already subscribed and the other says subscribe to comments thread.

In this format, there are two boxes to check under the “leave a comment” box – “Notify me of follow-up comments via email” and “Notify me of new posts via email.” So THAT’s how you do it!
OK – I have subscribed to your blog, and to the Hippie Professor’s. But I haven’t been able to figure out how to see who has subscribed to my blog. I’ve been all over the dashboard, and it’s probably right under my nose. Can you help?

It’s nicely hidden actually. Go to your blog stats page, scroll to the bottom where it says subscribers. There you will see who is subscribing to your blog via email.

Rutherford runs his own blog on WordPress, and he has helped me before with tech issues.
He writes excellent political and social commentary and his blog has a very active following of commenters. Unfortunately, it’s “pearls before swine” over there. (Just my opinion.) The commenters are much more intelligent than the average Tulsa World troglodyte, but it’s a pretty nasty bunch.
Pay him a visit – they are badly in need of a female voice in that boy’s club. And they’re even crazier than you are, so you should fit right in.

Black Swan = Say What is no liberal. She is an alleged independent with strong conservative leanings. Her conservatism is not of the hateful variety that dominates the comments at your blog, Rutherford.
She has some very strange views about economics. She is convinced that we are in the midst of hyperinflation because of deficit spending – even though the real risk in a recession is DEflation. The deflationary pressure is offsetting the inflationary effects of our present large deficits.
She also picks up on strange theories that circulate in emails from “conservative” friends.
I wish that Black Swan would put in an appearance at the Rutherford Lawson blog. Anything that she might do there to change the dynamic would be an improvement. And I get tired of fighting the battle for truth and light into midst of the regular commenters’ bitterness, cynicism and downright insanity.
