  1. I think that I am quietly becoming a socialist. I watched “The Motorcycle Diaries” over the weekend, a biographical drama about Che Guevara’s transformation as a young man, seeing the inequities throughout South America while on a motorcycle trip with a friend. Then I read about his life after this time and what lead him to his conclusions.

    Whether I am a socialist or not, I am convinced that corporate power is the enemy of democracy. And this kind of wealth distribution is primarily brought about by unfettered corporate power.

    • I have said many times that neither pure capitalism nor pure socialism works very well. What seems to work is a sensible mixture of the two. Does that make me a socialist? Some would say so.

      PL, your second paragraph is exactly right. I could not agree more.

      People who shriek “socialism!” over government involvement in almost anything have been brainwashed.

  2. Say what you will, Cubans live better than most in South America. Everybody eats, everyone has healthcare – can you say that about the US?
